Salt Creek Playground Finds New Home in Nepal

Play equipment formerly at the park was repurposed and installed in Jagriti Jwala Nepal.

Salt Creek Park playground has taken an international trip. Some of the play equipment formerly at the park was repurposed and installed in Jagriti Jwala Nepal at a school with only 67 students. The Elk Grove Park District, in cooperation with School District 59, maintains the playgrounds at various school/park sites owned by the school district. Renovation of a playground is based on age of equipment, maintenance history and the Park District’s capital replacement plans.

The Salt Creek School/Park playground was selected for and completed renovation during the summer of 2017 with resident input on equipment preferences. The prior equipment was then donated to Kids Around The World, a non-profit organization who’s mission is to positively impact the lives of needy children across the globe through food, play and story. On an international level, these children live in areas that have been affected by war, poverty, disease or natural disasters.

The donated equipment was refurbished for use by volunteers including painting and shipping to the schoolyard, this time in Nepal, where Kids Around the World volunteers worked with the local community to install the equipment. The Elk Grove Park District regularly contributes donations of playgrounds that are slotted for replacement to Kids Around the World for reuse at places like schools and orphanages for continued recreational enjoyment and the physical, emotional, creative and social growth of children through play.
